Three important pieces of legislation received royal assent on 24 May 2023. It’s good news for parents – But here’s what employers need to know:

1. Neonatal Care Act: Grants employed parents with a baby in neonatal care up to 12 weeks of paid leave, including maternity and paternity entitlements.


2. Protection from Redundancy Act: Extends redundancy protections during Maternity, Adoption, or Shared Parental Leave to cover pregnancy and post-return period.


3. Carer’s Leave Act: Introduces unpaid leave entitlement for employees caring for dependents with long-term care needs.
